The New York Yankees have designated Ramiro Pena for assignment, according to the team's official transactions page. The team made the roster move yesterday in order to clear room on their roster for newly acquired corner infielder Casey McGehee. However, it was originally believed to be an option down to Class Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and not a designated for assignment.

The 27-year-old Pena has been a member of the Yankees organization since he was 19-years-old, but this transaction could put an end to his time with the Yankees. If so, the utility infielder got his last stint with the team this past week. He appeared in three games and got one hit in four plate appearances.

The ten-day clock is ticking for the Yankees. The team could find a trade partner that would take on Pena for virtually no cost, but it is highly unlike the Yankees will t be getting anything with value.
