The Oakland Athletics have designated right-handed pitcher Graham Godfrey off the team's 40-man roster in order to clear room on the team's roster for newly acquired shortstop Stephen Drew, as first reported by Jane Lee of MLB.com.

The move starts a ten day clock for the Athletics to trade, release or outright Godfrey to the minor leagues. The last of which could be the most likely option, as the native of Florida has spent just about his entire career in the Athletics' minor league farm system.

The 28-year-old Godfrey made just five appearances for the Athletics this year, which included four starts. In 21 innings of work, the righty posted a 6.43 ERA while striking out as many as he walked (10). He didn't have much control it seems, as Godfrey also hit 3 batters.
