The Baltimore Orioles have acquired veteran left-handed starter Joe Saunders from the Arizona Diamondbacks for reliever Matt Lindstrom and a player to be named later, the team has announced:

Saunders, 31, will provide the rotation help the Orioles have been desperately seeking since early July. Baltimore had shown interest in Saunders since at least earlier this week, but a deal was not in the works until this morning. The lefty, who cleared waivers earlier this week, has a 4.22 ERA and 6.2 K/9 in twenty-one starts this season.
Moving the veteran left-hander makes room in the D'Backs rotation for 21-year-old Tyler Skaggs, who made his major league debut last week.
Lindstrom, 32, has had a solid season in the Orioles' bullpen, posting a 2.72 ERA and 7.4 K/9 in thirty-four appearances. The move now puts the right-hander on his fifth club in just six big league seasons.
Baltimore has been forced to use ten different starting pitchers this season due to injury and poor performance. The club came close to acquiring right-hander Joe Blanton from the Phillies at the trade deadline, but talks fell through at the last minute.
