With the waiver trade deadline approaching, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports Scott Hairston has been claimed on trade waivers by an unknown team. The outfielder is a waiver trade candidate, but the Mets really like him and haven't seemed eager to move him.

However, it appears Hairston will likely remain with the New York Mets. According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the claiming team's motivation was to block a deal with a contender rather than make a honest attempt to acquire the veteran.

It's no surprise Hairston was claimed, though. He is owed the remainder of a $1.1 million salary and has feasted on southpaw, evident with a .320/.353/.605 triple slash line.
