After being designated for assignment (again) by the Baltimore Orioles, left-handed pitcher J.C. Romero has elected to become a free agent rather than accept a minor league assignment, according to Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com.

The Orioles recently DFA'd Romero, giving them ten days to trade, release or outright the southpaw to the minor leagues. It appears the team wanted to send Romero to the minor league leagues, but because of the service time Romero has accumulated in his career, he rejected the decision and will opt to become a free agent instead.

The 36-year-old Romero tossed 4 complete innings (5 appearances) in relief for the Orioles this year. He allowed 3 runs to come around and score, while striking out and walking one batter. Romero will once again become a free agent, and will be likely have to settle for a non-guaranteed contract.
