The Seattle Mariners have placed starting pitchers Kevin Millwood and Jason Vargas on trade waivers, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports:

#Mariners’ Millwood and Vargas went on waivers today. Both likely to be claimed. Vargas owed just over $1M, Millwood just over $200K.
Both pitchers have fared well for the Mariners this year, but the younger Vargas is likely the more appealing of the two. The 29-year-old left-hander, who is under team control through 2013, has posted a 3.75 ERA and 5.6 K/9 in a league-leading twenty-seven starts this season. Millwood, 37, owns a 4.28 ERA and 6.2 K/9 in twenty-five starts this year and is a free agent at the end of the season.
Teams have 47 hours from the time the two were placed on waivers to put a claim in on them. The two could end up with a contender like the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are seeking rotation help, but it is also possible that teams may claim both pitchers to block those who really want to acquire them. This occurred yesterday with the claim of Mets outfielder Scott Hairston.
