The Philadelphia Phillies have placed right-hander Vance Worley on the disabled list due to an elbow injury, reports Todd Zolecki of MLB.com.

Zolecki adds that Worley is expected to undergo surgery on his injured right elbow sometime in the next seven-to-ten days.

Worley was removed from his start last night after only throwing sixty pitches. The 24-year-old surrendered four runs on nine hits with four strikeouts over four and one-third innings of work.

Following the game Worley told reporters that his elbow wasn’t to blame for recent struggles and that he wasn’t experiencing discomfort. With today’s news it appears Philadelphia is set to shut down the right-hander for the remainder of the season.

Over twenty-three starts, Worley has maintained an ERA of 4.20 with 2.7 SO/9 and 3.2 BB/9. He entered the month of July with a sub-3.00 ERA but has now posted ERA’s of 6.43 and 5.23 over the past two months.
