Here's the latest news involving major leaugers currently on rehab assignments:
- Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria took a day off Tuesday due to "general soreness," reported Mark Tompkin of the Tampa Bay Times. After the Durham Bulls' off day Wednesday, Longoria returned to action last night, going 0-3 with a walk and two strikeouts while playing DH.
- In his first rehab appearance Wednesday, Andrew Bailey struck out two batters while giving up one hit for the Boston Red Sox's Gulf Coast League affiliate.
- St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jaime Garcia had his rehab start pushed back a day to allow him to throw more pitches, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He threw 2 1/3 innings in his first rehab start Monday.
- Oakland Athletics pitcher Brandon McCarthy is scheduled to make a start tomorrow for the Sacramento River Cats, according to Jane Lee of MLB.com. He gave up six runs over 3 2/3 innings in his first rehab start.
- It will be quite the eventful weekend for Oakland's Triple-A affiliate, as Brett Anderson will follow McCarthy and make his third rehab start. The big southpaw is expected to throw around 75 pitches, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
