The Cleveland Indians have designated outfielder Johnny Damon foroassignment, clearing a roster spot on the team's 25-man roster for the recall of outfielder Ezequiel Carrera, as reported by Jordan Bastian of MLB.com. The news comes just one day after another veteran on the Indians, Derek Lowe, was also designated for assignment.

The Indians will now have 10 days to trade or release Damon. The minor leagues is also a possibility, but that is extremely unlikely to happen as Damon would not consent to that. The 38-year-old Damon signed a contract with the Indians in April when the team was seeking outfield depth, but this decision will end ties between the two.

Damon batted a brutal .222/.281/.329 in 224 plate appearances over 64 games. Only 12 of his 46 were for extra bases, including 4 home runs.
