Current Los Angeles Angels outfielder and free agent-to-be Torii Hunter told Rob Bradford of WEEI.com that he wouldn’t be averse to signing a contract with the Boston Red Sox this winter:
Despite Hunter’s assertion that Crawford would be welcoming the change, the 37-year-old outfielder said he wouldn’t be averse to joining the Red Sox as a free agent this offseason.
While Hunter said he’s "open" to signing with any team, his preference at this time is re-signing with the Angels. He is in the final year of the five-year, $90 million deal he signed with Los Angeles in November of 2007.
Hunter admitted that one of the primary reasons he’d be interested in playing for the Red Sox would be the presence of designated hitter David Ortiz. He and Ortiz were roommates in Minnesota, and Hunter lists Big Papi as one of his "best friends in baseball."
Of course, there’s no guarantee that Ortiz will be with the Red Sox in 2013, as he’s also in the final year of his contract.
