The Miami Marlins have placed infielder Emilio Bonifacio on the 15-day disabled list with a left thumb sprain, as reported by Joe Capozzi of The Palm Beach Post. Bonifacio injured his thumb attempting to make a diving play on a groundball hit up the middle during Friday's game against the Washington Nationals.
In a corresponding move, the team selected the contract of infielder Nick Green, who will be taking the open roster spot on Miami's 25-man roster in the short-term.
As expected,

The 27-year-old Bonifacio hasn't had quite the year he was having last season at the plate evident with a triple-slash of .261/.335/.321 with 1 home run in 264 plate appearances this season. He's played in just 61 games this season, though, and has stolen 30 bases.
