Fox, 30, signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates this off-season and spent the first part of the year with their Triple-A affiliate. Over 42 games spanning 123 at-bats, Fox was hitting .236/.309/.366 with ten doubles and two home runs.
These unspectacular numbers resulted in Fox being released by the Pirates in late June. He went on to sign with an Independent team, the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League, where he apparently caught the Phillies’ attention after posting solid numbers. Over 80 at-bats, Fox was hitting .388/.433/.750 with six doubles and seven home runs.
Fox last appeared in the bigs with the Baltimore Orioles. He owns a career line of .237/.288/.425 and has manned both corner infield and outfield positions as well as catcher at the major league level.

Will Fox ever be a productive major leaguer?
