The San Francisco Giants have claimed left-handed pitcher Jose Mijares off of waivers from the Kansas City Royals, the team has announced (via Twitter). He will be added to the team's 40-man roster and is expected to join the big league club's 25-man roster as well.

Mijares, 27, posted a 2.56 ERA across 38 2/3 innings of work with a 8.6 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9. He is owed the remainder of his $925,000 salary and is arbitration eligible.

Andrew Baggarly of Comcast SportsNet Bay Area writes the Giants are still in the search for more bullpen help, preferably a right-handed arm.

The Giants have been searching actively on the waiver wire for bullpen help; Mijares is expected to be more of a one-inning pitcher to complement situational lefty Javier Lopez and setup man Jeremy Affeldt. The club remains on the lookout for a right-hander, and the pool could deepen as some clubs fall out of the race in August.
