The Miami Marlins have experienced a disaster of a season and more contract dumps are likely to be in their future, according to Buster Olney of ESPN:

Well, the payroll already has been reduced, from the $101 million at the start of this season to something much less – and presumable, there are more cuts to come. The Marlins made an astute baseball trade in unloading Hanley Ramirez, and the $38 million remaining on his contract at the deadline, and they swapped a couple of veterans in Omar Infante and Anibal Sanchez. Lee and Carlos Zambrano, will presumably walk away as free agents after this season.

While the Marlins have cut payroll, Olney notes that they are experiencing 25% less in attendance than they expected entering the season. He also says the fact that they were asking for cash in possible trades for Carlos Lee is a sign of larger concerns.

He expects Miami to seriously consider dumping a salary such as that of Jose Reyes in the not too distant future, and lists the club’s other expensive contracts, including Heath Bell, Josh Johnson and Ricky Nolasco.
