The Texas Rangers have placed catcher Yorvit Torrealba on release waivers and will hand him his unconditional release if he’s not claimed, reports T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com:

The Rangers have put catcher Yorvit Torrealba on release waivers. If he’s not claimed, he will be given his unconditional release. The Rangers were unable to trade him.

Sullivan notes that the Rangers were unable to trade Torrealba, resulting in his placement on release waivers.

Texas designated Torrealba for assignment to make room on their roster for newly-acquired catcher Geovany Soto, who was traded to the Rangers by the Chicago Cubs.

Torrealba appeared in forty-nine games with the Rangers this season. Over 161 at-bats, the 34-year-old hit at a clip of .236/.302/.342 with eight doubles and three home runs.

Torrealba has spent twelve seasons at the major league level as a member of the San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres and Rangers. He owns a career line of .258/.317/.387.
