The Toronto Blue Jays have placed third baseman Brett Lawrie on the 15-day disabled list due to an oblique injury, reports Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com:

Lawrie hasn’t appeared in a game for the Blue Jays since August 3, when he left a contest against the Oakland Athletics following a first inning strikeout.
A Tuesday MRI showed inflammation in Lawrie’s oblique area, according to Richard Griffin of the Toronto Star. Lawrie has said he’s felt better recently, but the Blue Jays also stated they were not looking to rush the 22-year-old.
After an impressive showing during his 2011 major league debut, in which he hit .293/.373/.580 over 150 at-bats, Lawrie has struggled a bit this season.
Following his sluggish start to the year, Lawrie put together a solid June, hitting .310/.371/.513 with nine doubles and four home runs over 113 at-bats. Unfortunately for Lawrie and the Blue Jays, the third baseman’s struggles resumed in July and August.
On the year, Lawrie has hit .282/.326/.416 with twenty doubles, three triples and nine home runs.
