The Yankees designated Steve Pearce and Justin Thomas for assignment Tuesday to make room on their roster for Brett Gardner and David Aardsma.

The New York Yankees have designated outfielder Steve Pearce and left-hander Justin Thomas for assignment, reports Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News:

Pearce and Thomas were designated to make room on New York’s roster for outfielder Brett Gardner and right-hander David Aardsma, who were activated from the 60-day disabled list last night.

Pearce appeared in 12 games for the Yankees after being acquired by the club from the Houston Astros. Over 25 at-bats, the 29-year-old hit .160/.300/.280 with one home run.

Thomas, 28, appeared in four games with the Yankees this season, allowing three runs over three innings of work. The southpaw spent most of the year with the club’s Triple-A affiliate, posting an ERA of 3.45 over 57 1/3 innings.
