Mariners Trade Guillermo Quiroz To Red Sox

The Seattle Mariners have traded catcher Guillermo Quiroz to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for cash considerations, as first reported by Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe. The 30-year-old Quiroz has not appeared in a major league game since 2010, instead spending seasons in the minor leagues with the Padres and Mariners.

While this deal is certainly not an impact deal by any stretch of the imagination, Quiroz will serve as the Red Sox's third catcher for the remainder of the season, slotting behind Ryan Lavarnway and Jarrod Saltalamacchia. He'll just be providing further depth for a small price.

This season, the 6-foot-1 catcher batted .278/.362/.483 with 15 home runs in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. Of course, those numbers should be taken in context with the fact he's spent over 1000 games in the minor league level.
