Oakland has avoided arbitration with the right-hander, signing him to a one-year deal.

The Oakland Athletics have avoided arbitration with right-hander Chris Resop, signing him to a one-year, $1.35 million deal, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of MLB Trade Rumors:

The A's picked up Resop from the Pittsburgh Pirates in late November in exchange for minor-league right-hander Zach Thornton.

The 30-year-old broke into the big leagues in 2005, but managed to net only 80 innings of work in his first five major-league seasons. The right-hander finally caught a break in Pittsburgh, where he pitched out of the bullpen the last two-plus years and posted a 3.88 ERA and 8.3 K/9 rate in 162⅓ innings.

Resop owns a wide array of pitches for a reliever, according to FanGraphs, boasting three types of fastballs -- four-seam, two-seam, and cutter -- which he complements with a change-up and slider.

He is eligible for one more year of arbitration before hitting the open market in 2015.
