Right-hander trying to make a comeback with Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers have signed right-handed pitcher Kelvim Escobar to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training. Escobar hasn't pitched in the major leagues since going 0-1 in one start for the Angels in 2009. The last time he received full time work was in 2007, his best season, when he went 18-7 with a 3.40 ERA in 30 starts.

Escobar is 101-91 with a 4.15 ERA in 1,507 major league innings over 12 seasons spent with the Blue Jays and Angels. In March of 2008, it was revealed that Escobar had a tear in his right shoulder. After undergoing season ending surgery, he appeared in three minor-league games before making his final big league start in 2009.

Escobar signed with the Mets for the 2010 season, but again injured his shoulder again and never threw a pitch for the organization.

He has been off the radar until this offseason where he has pitched in the Venezuelan League and has recorded a 1.64 ERA over 11 innings of work.

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke is familiar with Escobar from his coaching days with the Angels.

The veteran will be trying to make the Brewers bullpen. He has 59 career saves, including 38 in 2002 for the Blue Jays.
