Oswalt looking to pitch in 2013

The veteran wants to pitch, but only on his terms.

One NL GM told Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe that Roy Oswalt still wants to pitch, but only on his terms and perhaps for just for half of the season. A lot of teams have given up on trying to persuade him to come back because the vibe is he doesn't want it enough.

Oswalt, 35, pitched in 17 games last season for the Texas Rangers. He went 4-3 with a 5.80 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 59 innings. Oswalt was a starter before being moved to the bullpen when the Rangers acquired Ryan Dempster from the Cubs at the trade deadline.

Oswalt is 163-96 with a 3.28 ERA in his 12-year career spent mostly with the Houston Astros. The two-time 20-game winner has had trouble staying healthy in recent seasons after starting at least 30 games in eight of his first ten big league campaigns. His 2011 season was hampered by back injuries and he missed time last year due to a strained forearm.
