The San Francisco Giants are expected to begin "blockbuster extension" talks with MVP catcher Buster Posey sometime this spring, reports Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle:

Still just 25 years old, Posey has already laid claim to two World Series titles, a batting title, the Rookie of the Year award, and the aforementioned MVP award. And he has done all that while missing almost a full season with a horrific leg injury.

That the Giants would want to lock up the slugging catcher long-term should come as a surprise to no one then. Posey is a Super-Two player – giving him an extra year of arbitration -- so he is arb-eligible for the first time this offseason.

While any dollar figures for an extension are blind speculation at this point, there is no question that Posey will command serious, possibly record money from the Giants.

In three seasons and change with San Francisco, Posey has hit .314/.380/.503 with 46 home runs while playing stellar defense behind the plate.
