Nationals sign Delwyn Young to minor-league deal

Washington's deal with the outfielder does not include a spring training invite.

The Washington Nationals have signed one-time Major League outfielder Delwyn Young to a minor-league deal, reports Bill Ladson of MLB.com:

Once a major prospect in the Dodgers' organization, the 30-year-old Young has fallen on hard times of late. The outfielder spent the 2012 season playing Independent League ball in New Jersey with the Camden Riversharks, and has not appeared in a big-league game in two seasons.

Nats fans may remember Young as the guy who hit the two-run home run off of Stephen Strasburg in his 14-strikeout MLB debut against the Pirates in June 2010. The switch-hitting outfielder played out the rest of the season with the Bucs but then moved on to the Phillies and failed to make their roster the following spring.

Young is a career .258/.317/.393 hitter with 17 home runs in parts of five big-league seasons.
