The veteran infielder will compete for a spot on Miami's bench this spring.

The Miami Marlins have signed veteran infielder Nick Green to a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training, reports Joe Frisaro of MLB.com:

The Marlins have added a veteran candidate to compete for their utility role.

Nick Green, who was with the organization in 2012, has agreed to a Minor League deal with an invitation to Spring Training.

Green, 34, will vie for a spot on the Marlins’ bench as a back-up infielder, the same role he found himself in last spring.

The veteran middle infielder failed to make Miami’s roster out of the gate in 2011, but did make a brief appearance with the club in August. He appeared in seven games for the Fish, notching just four hits in 24 plate appearances.

Green spent the majority of the 2012 season with the Marlins’ Triple-A club where he mashed minor-league pitchers, batting .344/.397/.599 with 12 home runs in 63 games.

Starting in 2004, Green has played for eight different clubs in parts of seven big-league seasons, hitting .236/.303/.347 in that span.
