The Toronto Blue Jaysseek a late-inning reliever to supplement the back end of their bullpen, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
Heyman considers free agents Matt Capps, Matt Lindstrom, Francisco Rodriguez, Juan Carlos Oviedo, Jose Valverde, Kyle Farnsworth and Brian Wilson to all be potential fits for the Blue Jays. All of these pitchers have closing experience.
The Blue Jays finished last season with the sixth-worst bullpen ERA in the majors at 4.33. They did log the sixth-most innings in the league and finished in the middle of the pack in K/BB (2.44).
Toronto acquired Sergio Santos from the Chicago White Sox last offseason as a closer candidate, but veteran Casey Janssen claimed the position for much of the year. The right-hander maintained an ERA of 2.54 while registering 22 saves for the Blue Jays.
Beyond Santos, the Blue Jays’ bullpen also includes Brad Lincoln, Steve Delabar and Esmil Rodgers.
