Giants could re-sign Lincecum

Lincecum is eligible to hit free agency after the season.

The San Francisco Giants are considering re-signing Tim Lincecum, reports Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle. Schulman says that some of the Giants decisions this year had Lincecum's pending free agency in mind. The two-time Cy Young winner will be a free-agent for the first time after the season.

Lincecum, 28, won the National League Cy Young award in 2008 and 2009. He has led the league in strikeouts three times and was a member of the Giants championship teams in 2010 and 2012. He struggled last season though, posting a 10-15 record with a 5.18 ERA in 186 innings. He also failed to strike out at least 200 batters for the first time since becoming a full-time starter.

Lincecum did pitch well out of the bullpen in the Giants postseason run last year. He only gave up one run in 13 innings when he came in relief, including 4 ⅔ innings against the Tigers in the World Series.

For his career, the four-time All-Star is 79-56 with a 3.31 ERA in six seasons. He will make $22 million in 2013.
