While he has not committed to playing in 2013, Lance Berkman continues to engage clubs about a potential opening. According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the latest organization to speak to Berkman is the Texas Rangers, who are looking to add offense after losing both Josh Hamilton and Mike Napoli to the Angels and Red Sox, respectively.

Berkman is coming off a 2012 season plagued by knee troubles, requiring two surgeries to repair his right meniscus. In 97 plate appearances last year, the Big Puma proved he still has a discerning eye and a bit of pop in his bat, hitting .259/.381/.444 with a pair of homers.

The Rangers will certainly take a close look at Berkman's medicals, as it is not just his meniscus that has marred the outfielder's health. Berkman has an extensive injury history, including arthritic knees, a balky back, and a multiple left knee surgeries. However, when healthy, the 36-year-old can be a solid contributor at the dish. In a relatively healthy 2011 campaign, Berkman hit .301/.412/.547 with 31 round-trippers in 587 plate appearances.

Teams inquiring on Berkman's services must also be cautious as to where they plan to play him. He is a major hindrance afield. In just 32 games played in 2012, Berkman was worth -1.2 FRAA.
