Diamondbacks rumors: Arizona hoping to trade Justin Upton, Jason Kubel

The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to weigh offers for outfielders Justin Upton and Jason Kubel, and the team hopes to trade one of the players "sooner rather than later," according to Buster Olney of ESPN.

Upton has been the player garnering most of the attention this winter. The Diamondbacks have made it so deep into discussions involving the 25-year-old that they had a deal in place that would have sent him to the Seattle Mariners. However, Upton used his limited no-trade clause to nix the agreement.

While it may appear that Upton is the favorite to be on his way out of Arizona, Olney adds that the Diamondbacks "fell like they have a good chance of getting suitable value" for Kubel, if they instead elect to trade him.

Upton, who's owed another $38.5 million through 2015, owns a career average of .278/.357/.475. Kubel has one more guaranteed year left on his contract, as he'll earn $7.5 million in 2013. The 30-year-old has hit .268/.334/.467 over eight seasons at the major league level.

The Texas Rangers and Atlanta Braves have been the two teams most tied to Upton, while the Baltimore Orioles are among the teams that have been connected to Kubel.
