Rosenthal adds that Gonzalez will receive a base salary of $1.5 million from the Brewers. The shortstop's contract also includes nearly $1 million in performance bonuses.

In 2011, Gonzalez hit .241/.270/.372 with 27 doubles and 15 home runs over 564 at-bats for the Atlanta Braves. He owns a career line of .247/.292/.399 over 14 seasons at the major league level.
Prior to the Gonzalez signing, former top prospect Jean Segura - one of the players acquired from the Los Angeles Angels in the Zack Greinke trade - was the favorite to become Milwaukee's everyday player at short.
