The Seattle Mariners have signed free agent first baseman Mike Jacobs to a minor league contract, according to Greg Johns of MLB.com:

But I can report today that the Mariners have signed first baseman Mike Jacobs to a Minor League deal with an invitation to Spring Training.

Jacobs' new deal with the Mariners includes an invitation to minor league spring training.

Jacobs spent the 2012 season with the Arizona Diamondbacks, collecting four hits in 19 at-bats with the team. The veteran spent a majority of the season with Arizona’s Triple-A affiliate, hitting .279/.362/.486 with 15 doubles and 18 home runs over 333 at-bats.

Over parts of seven seasons at the major league level Jacobs has hit .253/.313/473.

The move seems to be more for organizational depth at this point, according to Johns, as the Mariners are "pretty loaded" at first base with Justin Smoak, Kendrys Morales, Mike Carp and even Raul Ibanez in the mix.

Johns adds that Jacobs will get a look in spring training, as he’s someone with left-handed pop and major league experience. The 32-year-old becomes the fourth player to have signed a minor league deal with Seattle that includes an invite to major league spring training, also including Jeremy Bonderman, Jonathan Arias and Jesus Sucre.
