White Sox rumors: Chicago seeking lefty hitter

Christopher Hanewinckel-US PRESSWIRE

The Chi Sox are on the hunt for a complementary bat to balance their righty-heavy infield.

The Chicago White Sox are still on the prowl for a left-handed hitter, but are not looking to add a full-time player, reports Scott Merkin of MLB.com:

Merkin doesn't indicate a specific defensive position to which the Sox are looking to add a lefty bat. The fact that the only "infielder" on the club's 40-man roster who doesn't hit from the right side is Adam Dunn, however, is probably a good indicator that the club is searching for someone who can man an infield spot or two.

The market for lefty-hitting infielders is pretty depleted at this point, leaving the White Sox to essentially choose between Casey Kotchman, Lyle Overbay, Jason Giambi, Willie Harris, and Adam Kennedy (unless he retires).

The club has already added a lefty bat this winter, bringing DeWayne Wise back to the South Side on a one-year deal, but the veteran joins an outfield already well-stocked with left-handed hitters.

Chicago has had a very quiet winter overall, their biggest signing thus far being the three-year deal handed out to third baseman Jeff Keppinger during last month's winter meetings.
