Angels sign Bill Hall to minor league deal

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

The Los Angeles Angels don't just sign the big name free agents. They signed Bill Hall to a minor league contract tonight.

The Los Angeles Angeles are rumored to have signed Bill Hall to a minor league contract. The deal, when finalized, will include an invitation to Major League camp during spring training. While Hall has plenty of Major League experience, there is no guarantee that he actually breaks camps with the Angels.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports first reported the news.

Hall last played for the the Baltimore Orioles. In 2012, Hall played in seven games for the Orioles and hit .222/.500/.556. He hasn't played much in the last few years due to injury and poor performance on the field. In 2011 while splitting time between the Houston Astros and San Francisco Giants, Hall played in only 62 games and hit .211/.261/.314. Hall suffered a laceration when he was spiked by Jason Bartlett on a play at second base in 2011. He was placed on the 15-day DL for the injury. He also missed time in 2011 due to an ankle sprain.

More Angels: Top prospect performances of 2012.

While Hall has not played much in the last few seasons, he is best known for his time with the Milwaukee Brewers. Hall spent eight seasons with Milwaukee and hit a respectable .253/.312/.446. He was never spectacular at the plate, but he got the job done enough to stick around the Majors for 11 years so far.

The Angels could use Hall in case of injury to any of their outfielders or infielders. Hall has played all three outfield positions as well as third base, shortstop, and second base. It would be surprising to see Hall get very much time with the Angels, but there is the possibility that he gets called up at some point if he does not make the team right our spring training.
