Reds avoid arbitration with Chris Heisey, Alfredo Simon

The Cincinnati Reds have reached one-year agreements with right-hander Alfredo Simon and outfielder Chris Heisey to avoid arbitration.

The Cincinnati Reds have reached one-year agreements with right-hander Alfredo Simon and outfielder Chris Heisey to avoid arbitration, the team has announced.

Heisey's one-year deal is worth $1.325 million, according to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com. Simon filed for $1.05MM while the Reds countered with an offer of $750,000.

Heisey hit .265/.315/.401 with 16 doubles, five triples and seven home runs over 347 at-bats while manning all three outfield positions for the Reds last season. The 28-year-old has hit .259/.315/.438 over three seasons at the major league level.

The Reds selected Simon off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles last April. The right-hander appeared in 36 games for Cincinnati, maintaining a 2.66 ERA with 7.7 strikeouts and 3.2 walks over 61 innings. The 31-year-old owns a career ERA of 4.55 in five seasons at the major league level.

Having now reached agreements with Simon and Heisey, the Reds have four unsigned arbitration-eligible players remaining, including Homer Bailey, Shin-Soo Choo, Mat Latos and Mike Leake.
