Grady Sizemore rumors: Free agent could wait until mid-season to sign

Grady Sizemore could wait until mid-season to sign with his next club.

Former Cleveland Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore has received interest from several teams this offseason, but his agent, Joe Urbon told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that the free agent could wait until mid-season to sign:

"It could be Opening Day. It could be midseason," Urbon said. "Midseason is more likely."

Sizemore continues to recover from microfracture surgery on his right knee, a procedure he underwent in September. While interested clubs have offered to sign the 30-year-old, allowing him to rehabilitate at his own pace, Urbon says his client "does not want to commit to a team until he is ready to play again."

The decision to potentially hold off on signing stems from Sizemore’s belief that he rushed back last season to hold up his end of the $5 million free agent contract he signed with the Indians. All that accomplished was the outfielder being sidelined another season due to injury.

Rosenthal notes that, by waiting, Sizemore will be able to focus on his recovery process without being "specifically obligated to a team." Given his age, Sizemore can still play for several seasons if he’s able to get a handle on his injury situation.
