Astros rumors: Roger Clemens on verge of 'active role'

Roger Clemens is on the verge of taking an “active role” with the Houston Astros.

Seven-time Cy Young-winner and Hall of Fame candidate Roger Clemens is on the verge of taking an "active role" with the Houston Astros, according to Brian T. Smith of The Houston Chronicle:

Seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens is on the verge of taking an active role with the Astros.

There was talk that Clemens could potentially rejoin the Astros starting rotation last summer, but instead it appears the 50-year-old will take a more conventional role given his age.

Clemens has hinted at joining the Astros in some capacity since he retired from baseball following the 2007 season. The Rocket spent three of his 24 years at the major league level with the Astros, pitching for the club as recently as 2006.

Clemens was scheduled to meet with Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow yesterday as he and the club try to determine his potential role. Own Jim Crane and pitching coach Doug Brocail are behind the addition, according to Smith, that would likely have Clemens assist with the team’s pitchers.
