Carlos Ruiz receives multiple offers

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

The Rockies seem unlikely to land the catcher, and the Phillies, Red Sox and Blue Jays are among the other teams involved.

Free agent catcher Carlos Ruiz has received multiple offers and is expecting to receive more in the near future, a source has confirmed to MLB Daily Dish.

According to the Denver Post's Troy Renck, the Rockies have made a two-year offer to Ruiz that is worth around $15 million and includes a buyout that could be part of a club option for 2016. Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Ruiz's camp is telling suitors that they have received a two-year, $20 million offer, which is higher than the Rockies will go. Renck confirms that the Rockies are not willing to pay Ruiz $20 million on a two-year deal, and that they are prepared to move on to other priorities in free agency without budging on their $15 million offer.

The Red Sox are also interested in Ruiz, but Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that they are not the team who made the two-year, $20 million offer. Their interest is likely contingent upon whether or not they can re-sign Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

The Phillies have not moved on from Ruiz, and are likely among the teams who have made him an offer in recent days. MLB.com's Todd Zolecki recently reported that the team had already made offers to several free agents, and that they were not planning on waiting for an answer for Ruiz before moving onto other catching options like Saltalamacchia or Brian McCann.

In addition to the Phillies, Red Sox and Rockies, the Blue Jays are among the teams who have shown interest in Ruiz. Toronto is casting a wide net in free agency, and has reportedly reached out to Ruiz, Saltamacchia and A.J. Pierzynski. At this point, it seems likely that mystery teams are involved in the Ruiz sweepstakes as well.
