Dodgers sign Clint Robinson to minor league deal

The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed first baseman Clint Robinson to a minor league contract, a source has confirmed to MLB Daily Dish. The contract includes an invitation to major league spring training.

Robinson hit .254 with 13 HR and 55 RBI in 111 games split between the Blue Jays' Double-A and Triple-A affiliates in 2013 after being claimed off waivers from the Pirates at the end of spring training.

The 28-year old had a busy offseason last winter, being claimed by Toronto just months after being acquired from the Royals along with Vin Mazzaro in a deal that sent minor leaguers Luis Rico and Luis Santos to Kansas City.

A 25th round pick of the Royals in the 2007 draft, Robinson spent six seasons in the team's minor league system before being called up to the majors in June 2012. He was hitless in four pinch-hit at-bats, and demoted back to Triple-A Omaha. In seven minor league seasons, Robinson is a lifetime .301 hitter with 123 HR and 507 RBI. His best season came with Omaha in 2011, when he hit .326 with 23 HR and 100 RBI in 134 games.

Robinson joins catcher J.C. Boscan, outfielder Jamie Romak and right-handers Juan Gonzalez and Justin Souza as the Dodgers' minor league free agent additions this winter. Boscan is the only other player to receive a spring training invite.
