Right-handed pitcher Brett Tomko is in the process of seeking a minor league contract that includes an invitation to major league spring training, according to a source with knowledge of his thinking. Tomko is currently playing winter ball in the Dominican Republic, and the source says that his fastball is sitting between 92 and 94 mph. He is completely healthy, and reaching out to teams at this point.
Tomko, 40, drew some interest from the Yankees and Tigers while he pitched for the Atlantic League's York Revolution in 2013, according to a league source. In 19 starts with York on the season, he was 4-8 with a 4.98 ERA after getting off to a dominant start. He is a veteran of fourteen major league seasons with ten different teams, and would seem to be a good candidate as a veteran mentor at the Triple-A level.
