The Cincinnati Reds are nearing a deal with free agent catcher Miguel Olivo.

UPDATE - 2:27 p.m. EST - The Reds have announced the agreement. It's a minor league deal that includes an invite to spring training.

ORIGINAL - The Cincinnati Reds are nearing a deal with free agent catcher Miguel Olivo, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Beyond Cincinnati, the Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers also inquired on Olivo, according to Heyman. He adds that Olivo and the Reds are "finalizing" the agreement, but doesn't offer details on the contract.

Olivo spent the 2012 season with the Seattle Mariners. The backstop hit .222/.239/.381 with 14 doubles and 12 home runs over 315 at-bats. The 34-year-old was with the M's for the 2011-12 seasons after signing with the club as a free agent.

Entering the offseason, he had been with six teams over his 11 seasons at the major league level, including the Mariners, Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Royals, (the then) Florida Marlins, Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres. During his time in the bigs, Olivo has hit .241/.275/.418.

The Reds' roster already includes catchers Ryan Hanigan and Devin Mesoraco.
