Reds Notes: Shin-Soo Choo, Clay Hensley

David Richard-US PRESSWIRE

The Reds made a couple of moves today, let's take a look.

The Reds have avoided arbitration with Shin-Soo Choo today, the team Twitter account announces.

The team acquired Choo in a trade this offseason from the Cleveland Indians, and are expecting to play him in centerfield. He has one year left of team control. The settlement was for $7,375,000, according to the Associated Press.

The 30-year old outfielder played for the Indians from 2006-2012, spending some time before that with the Seattle Mariners.

The tweet also mentions that the Reds have signed reliever Clay Hensley to a minor-league contract with an invite to Spring Training.

Hensley, 33, pitched last season for the San Francisco Giants. He threw 50.2 innings and pitched his way to an ERA of 4.62. He has previously pitched for the Marlins and Padres.

Hensley should provide nothing more than bullpen depth for the Reds, who may need it with the transition of last season's closer Aroldis Chapman to the rotation.

The Reds finished in first place in the NL Central last season, and hope to land there again.
