Yankees rumors: New York won't give up 'good' prospect for Alfonso Soriano

The New York Yankees will not give up a top or even "good prospect" in exchange for Chicago Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano.

The New York Yankees will not give up a top or even "good prospect" in exchange for Chicago Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Heyman believes the Yankees would be willing to pay $10 million of the $36 million remaining on Soriano's contract.

The Cubs have indicated that they'd be willing to trade Soriano. He's a 37-year-old that is owed a significant amount of money from a bad contract, seemingly qualifying him for an immediate ticket out of town. However, Chicago has said that it appreciates the slugger's production and clubhouse presence, so it will not give him up for the sake of making a trade.

Soriano has 10-and-5 rights and as a result can veto any trade. He used this power to block a deal that would have sent him to the San Francisco Giants last year. But the veteran has said he'd be willing to consider a move to several teams, including the Yankees.

New York could use a right-handed bat that possesses the ability to man the outfield. They could use this to pair with DH Travis Hafner and its all-left-handed-hitting group of outfielders, including Brett Gardner, Curtis Granderson and Ichiro Suzuki. Soriano's not what he was, but he hits from the right side and managed a batting line of .262/.322/.499 with 33 doubles and 32 home runs last season.
