The Rangers have the financial flexibility to sign Kyle Lohse, but they remain uninterested in the free agent.

The Texas Rangers have a void in the back-end of their starting rotation, but they haven't changed their stance when it comes to free agent Kyle Lohse. Texas remains uninterested in signing the right-hander, according to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com.

If the Rangers do become interested in Lohse, they have the financial flexibility to sign him, according to Jon Heymanof CBS Sports. However, Heyman adds that Texas is "not desperate" to add a starting pitcher at the moment.

At this point, the Rangers have a projected rotation that includes Yu Darvish, Matt Harrison, Derek Holland and Alexi Ogando. Beyond this starting four, Texas has several candidates for its No. 5 spot, including Martin Perez, Robbie Ross and Justin Grimm. All three are relatively unproven commodities, as they all made their major league debuts last season and have registered eight combined starts.

For this reason, the Rangers represent a potential fit for Lohse. While they seem content to let the young trio battle it out for the final spot, Texas could give Lohse another look later this spring if their alternatives prove unappealing.

Over 33 starts for the St. Louis Cardinals last season, Lohse maintained an ERA of 2.86 with a 3.76 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Over 12 seasons in the majors, the 34-year-old owns a career ERA of 4.45, while he's posted an ERA of 3.90 over his past five years in St. Louis.
