Evan Longoria injury: Rays' 3B recovered from hamstring injury

Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria has "recovered extremely well" after undergoing surgery on his hamstring in November.

Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria has "recovered extremely well" after undergoing surgery on his hamstring in November, and the slugger plans on being with the team when pitchers and catchers report on Feb. 12, according to Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times.

Longoria said last week he has recovered extremely well from November surgery and will be in Port Charlotte when pitchers and catchers report Feb. 12.

Longoria sustained a hamstring injury last year that sidelined him for more than half of the season. The injury required surgery in November, but the three-time All-Star is expected to be full-go by the time spring training rolls around.

Still, Topkin warns fans to expect the Rays to take it slow with Longoria, especially early in the spring. The team will likely hold him out of early spring action as a precautionary measure.

Longoria's hamstring surgery didn't keep him from signing another long-term contract extension with the Rays this offseason. The 27-year-old inked a six-year, $100 million agreement with Tampa Bay that could keep him with the club until he's 37.

When Longoria was healthy enough to play last season, he hit .289/.369/.527 with 14 doubles and 17 home runs over 273 at-bats. He owns a career batting line of .276/.361/.516 over five seasons at the major league level.
