The Tigers and pitcher Max Scherzer have avoided arbitration.
The Tigers have avoided arbitration with pitcher Max Scherzer, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
The two sides are said to have settled for $6.725 million.
Scherzer, 28, pitched 187.2 innings last season and posted an ERA of 3.74. He also struck out 231 batters, among the top pitchers in that category. 2012 was one of the better seasons of the young pitcher's career, as he set a career high with those 231 strikeouts.

He will join a Tigers rotation that includes Justin Verlander, Doug Fister, Anibal Sanchez, and Rick Porcello.
The Tigers acquired Scherzer in the 2009 offseason in a 3-team trade that sent Curtis Granderson to the Yankees, and the Tigers received Austin Jackson as well. Scherzer and Jackson both were key cogs in the Tiger's American League Pennant-winning team last season.
No mention has been made yet of a possible long-term extension for the young pitcher, but that could be forthcoming.
