The Cleveland Indians have signed free agent catcher Omir Santos to a minor league contract.

The Cleveland Indians have signed free agent catcher Omir Santos to a minor league contract, the team has announced:

Santos' new deal with the Indians includes an invitation to major league spring training as a non-roster invitee.

Santos re-signed with the Detroit Tigers last offseason and appeared in three games for the club, collecting one hit over eight at-bats. The 31-year-old was granted free agency in June and soon signed on with the Colorado Rockies.

Santos spent a majority of the season with the Triple-A affiliates of the Tigers and Rockies. Over 203 combined at-bats in the minors, the catcher hit .310/.318/.429 with 16 doubles and two home runs.

Santos has spent parts of four seasons at the major league level with the Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets and Tigers. He saw his most extensive stint in 2009, as he appeared in 96 games with the Mets. That season he hit .260/.296/.391 with 14 doubles and seven home runs.

Combined over his four seasons at the major league level, Santos owns a career batting line of .249/.281/.364.
