Mets sign Corey Patterson, Mike Wilson

The New York Mets have signed outfielders Corey Patterson and Mike Wilson to minor league contracts.

The New York Mets have signed outfielders Corey Patterson and Mike Wilson to minor league contracts, according to Matt Eddy of Baseball America.

Patterson was a top prospect in the Chicago Cubs system, but his physical tools never translated into success in the majors. After numerous chances with the Cubs, Patterson was dealt to the Baltimore Orioles. He spent two seasons with the O's, hitting .273/.309/.415 with 45 doubles, seven triples, 24 home runs and 82 stolen bases in 100 attempts over 1002 plate appearances.

Patterson than began jumping around, appearing in the bigs with six teams over the next four season. He spent 2012 with the Milwaukee Brewers' Triple-A affiliate, hitting .251/.285/.410 with 20 doubles, four triples and 10 home runs over 387 plate appearances.

Over parts of 12 seasons in the majors, the 33-year-old owns a career batting line of .252/.290/.400.

Wilson came up through the Seattle Mariners' minor league system. He made his major league debut in 2011, collecting four hits in 28 plate appearances.

Wilson spent 2012 with Seattle's Triple-A club, hitting .239/.343/.452 with 13 doubles and 12 home runs over 268 plate appearances. Over 11 seasons in the minors the 29-year-old owns a career batting line of .267/.363/.476.
