The oft-injured southpaw will get a shot with Cleveland on a minor-league deal.

The Cleveland Indians have inked former Red Sox left-hander Rich Hill to a minor-league deal with an invite to big-league camp, the team has announced.

Hill battled a series of arm injuries over the past several seasons -- missing time with shoulder, elbow, and forearm issues -- but put up solid numbers for Boston late last year when he was finally well enough to take the mound.

The left-hander made only 40 appearances for the Red Sox over his three seasons with the club, all in relief, and posted a solid 1.14 ERA and 10.2 K/9 over 31⅔ innings in that span.

Hill began his big-league career as a starter with the Cubs and Orioles, but was bumped into the bullpen when it became clear that arm issues were a persistent problem. The left-hander was far less productive during his five-year stint as a starter, amassing a 4.87 ERA and 8.1 K/9 rate in nearly 400 innings.

His success as a reliever is still very much in the small sample size window, but Hill could end up being a nice addition to the Tribe's bullpen if he can stay of the disabled list.
