Astros rumors: Houston shopping Tyler Greene

The Houston Astros are exploring trade possibilities with infielder Tyler Greene.

The Houston Astros are exploring trade possibilities with infielder Tyler Greene, according to Brian T. Smith of The Houston Chronicle.

Smith adds that general manager Jeff Lunhow has made it clear that Ronny Cedeno -- who was recently signed by the Astros -- will be the team's regular shortstop. Cedeno's addition will result in Greene not breaking camp with Houston.

The Astros acquired Greene from the St. Louis Cardinals last summer in exchange for cash considerations. After hitting .218/.272/.358 over 197 plate appearances for the Cards, Greene maintained a batting line of .246/.278/.460 with six doubles and seven home runs over 133 plate appearances for the Astros.

Greene was a former first-round pick by the Cardinals that came through their minor league system as a shortstop. He eventually became a super utility player in the majors, manning short as well as second, first and third base and all three outfield positions.

Over four years in the majors, Greene owns a career line of .224/.292/.356. The 29-year-old is regarded as average to below average defensively at his primary positions -- shortstop and second and third base.
