Yankees claim Dan Otero from Giants

The New York Yankees have claimed right-hander Dan Otero off waivers from the San Francisco Giants.

The New York Yankees have claimed right-hander Dan Otero off waivers from the San Francisco Giants, according to Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area.

In order to make room on their roster for Otero, the Yankees have placed Cesar Cabral on the 60-day disabled list. The acquisition leaves them with a full 40-man roster. This will likely become an issue -- resulting in roster moves -- as New York still has to add several players -- including recently acquired outfielder Vernon Wells.

Prior to being claimed off waivers by the Yankees, Otero had allowed eight runs -- seven earned -- on 13 hits with one walk and three strikeouts over seven innings with the Giants this spring.

Otero made his major league debut last season, appearing in 12 games for San Francisco. He surrendered eight earned runs over 12 1/3 innings pitched, with two walks and eight strikeouts.

The 28-year-old spent a majority of the year pitching for San Francisco's Triple-A affiliate, maintaining an ERA of 2.90 over 62 innings. He owns a career ERA of 2.12 with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 6.16 over six seasons in the minors.
