Mets notes: David Wright, Daniel Murphy to be ready for Opening Day

New York Mets third baseman David Wright and second baseman Daniel Murphy are expected to be ready to go for Opening Day.

New York Mets third baseman David Wright and second baseman Daniel Murphy are expected to be ready to go for Monday's regular season opener against the San Diego Padres, according to Marc Carig of Newsday.

Both players are recovering from intercostal strains -- on Wright's left side and Murphy's right. They were able to suit up today for the Mets' exhibition finale against the Baltimore Orioles. Barring any setbacks, both expect to be in New York's Opening Day lineup on Monday.

Wright suffered his injury preparing to play for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. He was sidelined through the contest and hasn't returned to spring action until recently.

After hitting .306/.391/.492 with 41 doubles and 21 home runs last season for the Mets, Wright signed a contract that will see him earn $192 million through 2020.

Murphy has been limited to three plate appearances this spring. The 27-year-old hit .291/.332/.403 with 40 doubles, three triples and six home runs for the Mets last season, and he owns a career batting line of .292/.339/.427.
